Biography of Maria Eva Duarte de Peron

Maria Eva Duarte de Peron, also known as Evita, was an Argentine actress and the wife of President Juan Peron. She gained enormous popularity among the common people of Argentina, who idolized this peasant girl who rose to unprecedented heights. Born in Los Toldos, a poor village 150 miles from Buenos Aires, Evita was the fourth illegitimate child of Juana Ibaguren and Juan Duarte, a small landowner. At the age of 14, she escaped to Buenos Aires with the goal of becoming an actress.

Initially, her semi-illiteracy, provincial upbringing, and rural accent hindered her, but soon she became a leading actress on the radio. Standing tall at 170 cm, with big brown eyes, light hair, and a beautiful face, Evita was adored by men. In 1944, Evita met and befriended widowed Colonel Juan Peron. She moved into his house and married him in 1945. Shortly after, Juan Peron became the President of Argentina, and Evita became the country's first lady.

Evita fought for women's suffrage, organized labor unions, and through the Eva Peron Foundation, she channeled millions of dollars from Argentina's budget into programs to help the needy (while not forgetting about her own bank accounts in Switzerland). Evita died at the age of 33 from cervical cancer, and her death was mourned by all of Argentina.

Evita had a complex character. She could be charming and enchanting, but also vengeful and vindictive. She used sex as a means to achieve her goals, as she always aspired for power and wealth. In Argentina at that time, over a quarter of all children were born out of wedlock, just like Evita. It was an accepted norm, but illegitimate children were never expected to hold high positions in the future. Therefore, the only means for Argentine women to achieve their goals was through sex, and Evita skillfully used it.

After marrying Juan Peron, she tried to destroy all evidence of her tumultuous youth. Much of what is known about her life before her marriage is based only on rumors and gossip. It is believed that Evita started her career in Buenos Aires as a prostitute. Later, as the wife of the president, she attempted to legalize prostitution in Argentina, but it is unlikely that she worked on the streets herself. Instead, she chose a different path. Evita sought out wealthy and influential men and became their mistress, thus climbing the social ladder in Argentine society. She even posed for pornographic publications, which were later collected and destroyed at her order. However, even after her marriage, Evita could not completely shed the label of a "whore," as she was called behind her back. Sometimes, people shouted this directly to her face. For example, during an official visit to Italy, Evita was riding in an open car through the streets of Milan with a retired admiral accompanying her on this trip. Upon hearing the angry cries of the crowd, Evita turned to her companion and exclaimed, "Do you hear that? They are calling me a whore!" The admiral replied, "I understand them perfectly, madam. I haven't been at sea for 15 years, but they still call me an admiral."

It is believed that Evita's first lover was tango dancer Jose Armani, to whom she offered herself as payment for him taking her to Buenos Aires. Armani agreed, and Evita ended up in a hotel. Later, however, Evita changed this story and named popular singer Agustin Magalis as her first lover.

At the age of 15, Evita left Armani (or Magalis) and started living with Emilio Korstulovich, a publisher. She soon realized that photographers and producers were the most useful people for her career, so she began choosing lovers from these professions. Those who were close to Evita at the time claim that she was cold, calculating, and cunning, driven only by a thirst for power and wealth rather than love or passion. At the same time, she could captivate a man to the point where he would do anything for her. For example, after getting to know Evita closely, theater owner Rafael Firtuzo gave her a role in one of his shows, and the owner of a soap factory, with whom Evita was briefly involved, provided her with the best cosmetic products. Then came Peron – a handsome man, a womanizer, and a great admirer of young girls. On the first day of their meeting, Evita and Peron became lovers. Evita did everything she could to convince him that he would become the country's leader in the future.

After Evita's death, Juan Peron created the scandalous Student's Union, which soon became a tool for him and his officers to find young mistresses. Union employees would select suitable girls and send them to regional "recreational centers." Peron had his own personal "recreational center" where the most attractive schoolgirls from all over the country were sent.

In 1955, Peron was overthrown in a coup and went into exile in Madrid. He returned to power in Argentina in 1973 but ruled for a short time. It is likely that Evita remained faithful to Peron throughout their life together. However, there is one known instance of her infidelity when she couldn't resist the allure of power and wealth, personified by Aristotle Onassis. Evita met him during World War II when she was involved in sending food parcels to Greece, which was occupied by the Nazis. When Evita visited Europe in 1947, Onassis specifically flew to Italy to meet her. After an official dinner attended by many distinguished guests, he asked Evita's secretary to arrange a private meeting for him. He was invited to her villa, where Evita was staying. On the same day, Onassis and Evita ended up in bed, engaging in a love affair. Later, Evita cooked an omelet for Onassis, and he handed her a check for $10,000. Several years later, Onassis jokingly referred to the omelet that Evita served him as the "most expensive omelet in his life."

Evita's name still lives on in legends. In the late 1970s, the Broadway musical "Evita" about her life and career gained international fame. This musical was created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, who had previously achieved success with their rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar." In 1996, Alan Parker directed the film "Evita" based on the musical, starring popular singer and actress Madonna.
