Jim jones rapper wife
Jim Jones grew up on his family's farm in southern Idaho and was inspired to public service by President Kennedy. In 1964, he received a political science degree from the University of Oregon, as well as an ROTC commission in the Army. He earned a law degree from Northwestern University in 1967 and became an Idaho lawyer. Jim volunteered for combat duty in Vietnam and served for over a year with a heavy artillery unit in Tay Ninh Province (July 1968-August 1969). He was promoted to the rank of Captain four months into his tour. Jim spent most of his tour living and working with South Vietnamese forces, helping an orphanage operated by the Cao Dai Church, and serving as an aerial artillery spotter. Jim says those 407 days were the most powerful influence on his life. He chronicles them in "Vietnam...Can’t get you out of my mind: A journey through the Vietnam War and its aftermath." After his military service, Jim served as legislative assistant to a U.S. Senator from Idaho for three years. He moved back to Idaho in 1973 and practiced law in a small town until he was elected as Idaho Attorney General in 1982. Jim served two elected terms as Attorney General. One of his signal achievements as Attorney General was setting Idaho on a course to modernize its water laws following an epic water rights fight with the State’s most powerful electric utility. Jim has written about that western water drama in "A Little Dam Problem: How Idaho almost lost control of the Snake River." He received the 2017 Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities from the Idaho Humanities Council for his book. Another highlight of his tenure as AG was a years-long effort to rid northern Idaho of white supremacists. A broad coalition was formed and eventually succeeded in bringing the hate purveyors under control. Jim received the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League in 1987 for his part in the fight. After an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in 1990, Jim practiced law in Boise until being elected to the Idaho Supreme Court in 2004, where he served for 12 years. Jim was elected Chief Justice in July 2015 and served in that capacity until his retirement at the end of 2016. Adding to his life experience, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two weeks after retiring. Following surgery and chemo, he beat the long odds and has been cancer free ever since. Jim is now a would-be commentator on current events, focusing primarily on national politics. He writes a weekly column that appears in a number of Idaho daily newspapers, as well as his blog--JJCommonTater.com. Jim is married to Boise author, Kelly Jones. They have three children and eight grandchildren.
