Autobiography of bhagat singh in english

Bhagat Singh: A Biography

January 30, 2021
This is regarded as the first biography on Shaheed Bhagat Singh, authored by Jatinder Sanyal, a comrade of Bhagat Singh who was tried as co-conspirator in Lahore Conspiracy Case, but was released due to lack of evidence.

Published in May 1931, nearly 2 months post martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, the book gives an account from a man who was not only his contemporary but also had some of the most intimate understandings of one of the greatest revolutionaries during the British rule in India. The book was an instant hit among the youth in those turbulent times. Hence, the imperial govt fearing intense protest and backlash from the newly charged youth, banned the book, confiscated most of the copies of the book and even initiated a trial against Jatinder Sanyal for such ‘dangerous’ , ‘seditious’ book.

Coming to the biography, I find it quite captivating, since I have been always a fan of all such non fictions that are based on Indian independence struggle and on the immortal heroes and heroines who have fought against the oppressive enemies of India, including the Islamic forces from Middle East and Central Asia who ravaged our people, land and prosperity for more than 5-6 centuries, as well as the white imperialists who simply continued the oppressive regime from the earlier Islamic imperialists.

Some of the facts i learned from this books first time:-

1. He studied in DAV School, Lahore Which was run by Arya Samaj. He truly had a lot of influence of Arya Samaj philosophies, though he was born in a pious Sikh family.
2. His trial in Lahore Conspiracy Case made him popular not only in India, but also across various corners of the world, which resulted to inflow of donations for revolutionary parties from Japan, USA, Africa and even as far as from South America.
3. Not only this, a Polish lady, moved by Bhagwat Singh’s unfathomable patriotism and infallible determination to sacrifice himself in the altars of the freedom movement, even sent remittance for keeping herself updated with the progress of the trial of the three heroes.
4. His well planned arguments and tactical moves during the trial resulted to a mass uprising among the Indian public and inspired thousands of men and women to join India’s fight for independence from the imperial government. His real objective of bombing the Assembly was met. He successfully led the trap and the Brits walked into it.
5. Congress’s inaction and timidity when the nation was demanding commutation of Bhagat Singh, lay bared in this book, though the author made a feeble attempt to cover up Mahatma Gandhi’s surrender to the imperialistic might of the Brits.
6. Bhagat Singh’s description of Congress and particularly of Gandhiji’s doctrine of Non Violence as ‘Utopian Non Violence’ was undoubtedly insightful and accurate to last alphabet.

Though the book gives a brief account of the life and principles of Bhagat Singh and his supreme sacrifice for the nation, it is worthy of read.

However, I have a reservation against the author’s conclusion that Bhagat Singh had entirely turned atheist and was a fierce communist. I opine such views of the author is result of common inference that communism invariably makes men atheist. For kind information of all, Bhagat Singh underwent Upanayana and donned Yagnopavit. He and some of his family members had become Arya Samajis. He was a socialist, not communist.

His believe in God was not along the traditional lines prevalent in Indian society , which led many revolutionaries to mistake him to have become a hard core atheist.

Also, my advise to all present day pseudo commies and liberals, please read the true meaning of revolution as described by Bhagat Singh, before you go around protesting aimlessly, screaming at top of voice hollow, meaningless slogans and resorting to unnecessary ruckus creating unrest in society and country.

Overall good book to read and learn more of one of the greatest immortal sons of our motherland.

Inquilab Zindabad, Long live Revolution !!!
