Eddie scarry bio
Eddie Scarry is a media writer in Washington, D.C.
Journalism career
Scarry was the first to report that Donald Trump would announce his presidential candidacy in June 2015. Talking about the requirements to participate in the first Republican presidential debate on Fox News, Trump told Scarry in a May interview for the Washington Examiner: “One of the stipulations is you have to declare your candidacy. And I'll probably be doing that in the month of June … I used to say June or July. Now I'm saying June.” [1]
Scarry began writing for TheBlaze in 2011.[2] He was reportedly fired from the organization in March 2013, following an incident that took place between Scarry and Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert during an event at Breitbart News.
During the event, which corresponded with the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, Scarry photographed Gohmert dancing with a woman who was not his wife. Gohmert departed the scene, according to an account published by The Daily Caller’s Betsy Rothstein. Subsequently, “Gohmert complained to Blaze publisher Glenn Beck, the photograph was cropped, details were removed from the site, and a few days later Scarry was out of a job.” [3]
He was hired by FishBowlDC the same year. During his tenure there, he was named as a witness in a defamation lawsuit against the publication, along with The Daily Caller founder Tucker Carlson, Charles Hurt and Emily J. Miller of the Washington Times, and 39 others.[4][5]
He subsequently wrote for Mediaite briefly before joining the Washington Examiner in November 2014.[6] He was threatened with a libel lawsuit by conservative blogger Charles Johnson the following December for an article in which Scarry suggested conservatives did not want to associate with the “toxic” Johnson,[7] but Johnson ultimately did not file suit.
Along with Byron York, Scarry was one of two writers for The Washington Examiner to conduct interviews with Trump in the 2016 election cycle. [8][9]
Personal life
Scarry graduated from Winthrop University in 2010 with a B.A. in mass communications.
